3.40 Catterick: Two Commanders
Ed Bethell’s three-year-old gelding is in handicap company for the first time and looks to be on a favourable mark, especially in a race that isn't the most competitive and full of very exposed rivals.
Two Commanders has been consistent and has progressed in his three starts so far, and won his maiden over today’s course and distance. He put up his best performance yet against a decent Roger Varian-trained prospect and this looks a good opportunity to win on handicap debut.
4.40 Catterick: Edmond Halley
I am happy to take a chance with this lowly-rated type who is making his debut for the in-form Ed Bethell yard in what looks a winnable race.
Edmond Halley showed initial promise, but his form fell off a cliff in subsequent runs for his previous Irish yard.
He did run with promise after a break in the past and he has been dropped 5lb (compared to his Irish rating) and Bethell has engaged 5lb claimer Con Horgan who has been riding well for the yard this summer, and scored at Hamilton last weekend.
If he runs badly here he will have few options except at basement level, so I can’t imagine he will not be fit and ready for this stable debut.
5.05 Bath: Havana Club
Havana Club won under Finley Marsh over this course and distance off this mark last May and was narrowly beaten here back in April.
He clearly acts well over the mile at Bath and this looks a good opportunity. Very fast ground is not an issue for him as he handles it better than most.
