Wednesday tips: Dave Nevison's three best bets

Top tipster Dave Nevison has another trio of selections at Beverley and Sandown on Wednesday, with both meetings live on Racing TV.

4.45 Sandown: Atherstone Warrior

Atherstone Warrior’s first two runs were on heavy ground and yielded his only career win so far in a Thirsk maiden. Arguably all his runs since then could be dismissed on account of quick ground, which may not suit, and unconventional tracks such as Goodwood and Epsom have noticeably not helped him on a couple of runs.
Connections obviously feel the horse is still capable of showing good form as he has been well-backed and a return to a more conventional track and much softer ground can show him to better effect.
The handicapper has dropped him to his lowest mark and it would be no surprise to see some more money come for him here.

4.53 Beverley: South Parade

South Parade ran a good race over this course and distance on his seasonal reappearance and is well drawn enough to be fancied to land his first course success.
Richard Fahey’s filly has been steady and consistent all season but has only gone up 4lb in the weights despite already winning two races in 2025. Last time out she was beaten three quarters of a length when third at Newcastle, showing she was still in good form.
Stall two means there is a good chance she could lead and bag the rail which is often handy at Beverley, and a good run is expected.

5.24 Beverley: Masakela

It is a long time since Masakela was regularly contesting Group races and he still hasn’t  won a race for Tim Easterby. I have only got involved once with this six-year-old gelding when backing him at a big price in a much higher grade York handicap.
He ran okay, but met trouble in running and didn’t manage to place. Finding trouble has become a bit of a habit, but he can definitely be forgiven last time when he had to switch to avoid a faller in an amateur event.
David Allan, who is the rider who has come closest to winning on Masakela, is back on board today in a race set to be run at a good pace. This should give him plenty of opportunity to steer a course through this field and hit a place at least.
