Killarney is one of two live meetings on Racing TV on Wednesday and I’ll be looking forward to a lot of long-range camera shots of the beautiful lakes and mountains while thinking about going there again one day. It is well worth a trip.
Catterick is the British meeting on the channel and, while it’s pretty modest stuff, I have three selections on the card.
He looks poised to hit form judged on his effort at York last time behind the prolific Mr Wagyu and he might be value against the in-form and progressive Look Out Louis.
Cottam Lane is still lightly-raced and has definitely looked to be running himself into form on his three starts so far this season and improving with each one. Off the same mark as at York, he looks well-enough treated.
This course will certainly suit his front-running style, though there are others in this field who have similar traits and Cottam Lane doesn’t have to lead.
I tipped him up recently but he was a late withdrawal; I’m assuming there was just a minor concern and he is fit and ready to go again now.
Fennaan only had three runs last season and they were all disappointing to a greater or lesser degree, but consequently he starts this term on his lowest ever handicap mark and he might be worth chancing from a stable going really well at present.
Fennaan has never run in the 0-80 bracket before and, even for this lower level, the opposition does not look massively inspiring. Several rivals here like to press the pace which should suit Fennaan, who is a winner over this distance but this 7f trip is a minimum for him these days.
The market will no doubt indicate whether Fennaan is ready, but even if I’m wide of the mark I’ll be watching closely as there’s no doubt he’s well-enough handicapped to win races this summer.
He’s caught the eye on both recent starts – one over hurdles and last time on the Flat – and he can finally break his maiden on turf at this basement level.
Coup De Gold stayed on well at Beverley last time - in the division run faster than the one contested by O’Reilly’s Pass – and a winner has already come out of that race, so the form looks strong enough to hold up in this event. This race is far from competitive.
Jessica Bedi is one of the stronger jockeys booked to ride in this event for amateur riders, and she has been riding well in addition to training winners recently.
