"He probably should have won" - Watch the International Review Show

By Racing TV
Last Updated: Wed 4 Nov 2026
Fancy an in-depth review of last week's memorable Breeders' Cup moments? Nick Lightfoot and Angus McNae analyse how the key races unfolded, plus take you around the racing world in 60 minutes.
They review a memorable World Championships at Keeneland, from Sun Goddess, Haffner and Libertango on Future Stars Friday to Benvenuto Cellini, Bacio and Sovereignty’s farewell in the Classic. Angus uses the sectionals to explain where it went wrong for Notable Speech.
The duo allso look back at Danon Decile’s Tenno Sho Autumn win in Japan, and look ahead to the Bahrain International Trophy, now a Group 1, where Aidan O’Brien could set a new world record.
"The data tells us they went an even gallop. They didn't go too mad ,we've got an outsider who's leading them along in the early part of the race and who was way too keen and that pace was attended by Puerto Rico and Ryan Moore from a wide draw.
"[They went] hard for a couple of furlongs, then they've steadied, so they're all on top of each other down the back straight and it turned into a bit of a dash up the home straight.
"Deterministic [the winner] was attending the pace and that was where you needed to be because overall this was just slower than even, apart from that first quarter-mile.
"William Buick was just a bit further back than than he wants to be and he's in a bit of traffic and he's just being held in at this this point.
"He's ended up having to angle wide and then this horse has flashed home really strongly and he was getting to Deterministic with every every leap and bound inside the final furlong.
"It was said afterwards that perhaps the ground was a bit a bit too easy for him, but the times on the night and the times on Friday were quick, the ground was rated as Firm, and I don't think he would have come home as strongly as he did and showed the turn of foot that he did to get into second if the ground had been easy.
"He probably should have won, but it just didn't pan out for William Buick. But the people that are having a go at him, they know what this horse is and that he is a horse who's had trouble in running before. That's how you ride him,  you've got to ride him for a bit of luck and the luck didn’t come."
