Roger Varian is tempted to pitch his Gordon Richards Stakes winner
Saddadd in at the deep end for a shot at the Tattersalls Gold Cup.
The son of Pinatubo has won four of his seven starts, with creditable performances in defeat at the hands of the likes of Opera Ballo and Gethin coming before victories in the London Gold Cup and a similar valuable prize at Sandown last term.
He ended the 2025 campaign with another respectable effort when a length third in the Foundation Stakes before serving a timely reminder of both his class and untapped potential in his comeback win in the Esher Group Three last month.
The four-year-old could now cross the Irish Sea for the
Curragh Group One Varian saddled former stable favourite Defoe in to finish third in 2018.
“Saddadd is in great form and we’re considering the Tattersalls Gold Cup for him,” said Varian.
“We’re either going to the Group One or the Brigadier Gerard under a penalty. If we don’t go to Ireland then we will probably go back to Sandown for the Brigadier Gerard.
“He’s one to look forward to.”
