Under starter's orders: Racing TV to broadcast German racing

Sat 9 May 2020

Racing TV is delighted to announce that live German horseracing will be broadcast on the leading horseracing channel this weekend, following an agreement between RTV’s parent company, Racecourse Media Group, and Deutscher Galopp.

Germany – one of the first countries to resume horseracing in Europe following the Covid-19 outbreak – successfully staged racing for the first time since March 15, when fixtures were staged at Hanover and Cologne this week.

German racing has an excellent reputation, responsible for some of the best horses, trainers and jockeys in the world and recently produced the superstar, Danedream, winner of the 2011 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp and 2012 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot.

Sunday could be a key date in terms of the European three-year-old pecking order, with the brilliant Rubaiyat, lining up for the Group Three Dr. Busch-Memorial at Hoppegarten, due off at 1.30pm.

The race will form part of an extended Luck On Sunday, on air from 11am.

Trained by Henk Grewe, Rubaiyat will put his unbeaten record on the line, having rounded off last season with victory in the Gran Criterium at San Siro, one of Italy’s best races. It was a campaign which earned him the title of Horse of the Year in 2019 in Germany, an accolade very rarely bestowed on a two-year-old.

Racing TV Extra (which is just two clicks or taps away via the website, mobile, RTV Apps and TV Apps) will also bring viewers action from a competitive card at Mülheim on Saturday.
