4.50 Southwell: The Last Drop

The Last Drop is bred for stamina and the six-year-old still has potential to improve now that he goes beyond the minimum trip for the first time.
He was well behind until turning into the straight at Uttoxeter but stayed on well to be beaten only 15 lengths and he finished with running in him.
He has been dropped a couple of pounds for that effort and, given it was his first run for nearly a year, he is likely to come on a little for the run.
I will be surprised if The last Drop cannot go close in this.

5.00 Nottingham: Man Of La Mancha

I usually steer clear of three-year-old only handicaps until after Royal Ascot but there is such a shortage of runners across all meetings that my hand has been forced a little.
That said, it is difficult to see Man Of La Mancha not going close to following up his Windsor success in this.
He was backed into 7-4 favourite last time and won nicely by 2 ½ lengths and the 6lb penalty he carries here would not have stopped him.
The booking of Jack Dace to offset the penalty looks interesting as Ralph Beckett will be the tenth different trainer to have engaged the claimer in just 11 rides.
I always think the number of trainers who want to use an apprentice shows the regard they are held in, and it is clear Dace ihas plenty of admirers.

5.25 Southwell: Leading Force

There is no need to worry about whether Leading Force is fit and ready to run on his first start for the James Owen yard as the eight-year-old has been entered for five races over the next few days, so surely the plan is to strike while the iron is hot.
He has been entered in races over hurdles and fences so maybe there is a strategy to switch codes and avoid potential penalties.
Leading Force has tumbled in the weights after having a poor season and is now 13lb lower than when he last ran over hurdles and his mark is 10lb lower than when he won a handicap chase a year ago.
It goes without saying that  Owen has quickly established a reputation for improving horses rapidly. With the champion jockey booked, I’ll be surprised if Leading Force is overlooked in the betting.
