2.57 Pontefract: Kokanee
Kokanee won on his seasonal reappearance last season and could well do so again now that he is back down to that same winning mark.
Ed Dunlop’s gelding was a little bit hit and miss for the rest of the campaign, but ran well over this trip on his penultimate start.
His win came at Beverley which is a track with a stiff uphill finish, so I doubt Pontefract will hold any fears for him, and the booking of Rossa Ryan, on board for the first time, suggests he will be well prepared for this engagement. The ground was similar to this when he landed that win.
3.27 Pontefract: Mount King
Mount King won twice at Pontefract last season and is back down to a mark just 1lb higher than the last of those wins for his return to action and to this track. He has a decent draw in stall 4, which should mean that he is not forced too wide as he was the last time he ran over course and distance.
He still ran well enough and clearly enjoys this track, and with David Allan back on who was on board for the two wins, he looks the percentage call in a field of largely exposed types.
3.57 Pontefract: Dark Cloud Rising
Dark Cloud Rising was on the go from April to December last year, but had a very good time of things winning on three occasions.
He was still in very good form when he last ran before Christmas and was beaten less than a length, even though only fifth at Newcastle.
He won here at Pontefract on his first run of last season and, even though he went up the weights throughout the year, he looks progressive enough to suggest he will be a contender in most of his races this time around.
