The Racing TV cameras are at Catterick on Tuesday and I’m hoping three horses who won over course and distance last time out can follow up under similar conditions.
2.12 Catterick: Homer Stokes
Homer Stokeshas won and been placed off a mark in the mid 70s so a rating of 66 is certainly manageable for him if he his back to his best.
Judging by the way he has returned this season after a midsummer break, then he may well be back in that sort of form. He has won his recent starts, both over this course and distance so clearly enjoys racing at Catterick. His latest win came on soft ground, too, so underfoot conditions wil not be an issue.
Booking the excellent Joe Leavy gives Homer Scott one of the most valuable 3lb claims available. A good run looks assured.
2.47 Catterick: Captain Potter
Trainer Brian Ellison will have a much more valuable 2m handicap in Melbourne on his mind this time next week, but Captain Potter will hopefully set the ball rolling for the stable in this bottom grade handicap.
He beat one of Tuesday’s rivals, Tarbat Ness, over course and distance last time when well backed. He is worse off at the weights but I expect him to confirm the form against that soft hearted rival. Soft ground suits perfectly.
3.22 Catterick: Count D’Orsay
Count D’Orsay is a typical Easterby sprinter in that he runs himself in and out of form. And after 12 months without a win, he hit form in July and has since run a mixture of races, landing another two sprint handicaps along the way.
His latest came over this course and distance and came just 24 hours after he had run a good second at Haydock.
He is just 2lb higher here and has performed well off a mark higher than this. He is perfectly served by soft ground and, if on song, is certainly capable of another win to crown a good season.
