Dave Nevison bids to get a new week off to a profitable start with his three fancies at Pontefract on Tuesday. Enjoy every race live on Racing TV!
3.10 Pontefract: Francophone
Francophone represents a stable going exceptionally well, and Charlie Johnston’s filly could well be up to landing one of Pontefract’s biggest races.
She ran really well when a staying-on fifth at Royal Ascot last time after switching behind runners for a clear run.
The selection definitely looks set to be suited by this even stiffer track given she is sticking to a mile, and I don’t believe her wide draw will prove too much of a hindrance as she will no doubt be dropped in early, and be delivered late.
She has already won in Listed company and ran well at Group Three level at Newmarket last season.
3.40 Pontefract: Musical Touch
It is difficult to predict how this sprint handicap will be run as all the pace is drawn high, and those contenders might well use up a lot of fuel getting out a prominent position.
It seems likely to me that Musical Touch, who is drawn in stall three, should be able to hold a decent position just off the pace, and may have plenty of energy left to finish well.
Richard Fahey’s gelding has been running very consistently this season and finished just out of the frame in a more competitive event at York last time.
He probably ran his best race of the season when second at Chelmsford under this rider, who is able to claim his full 5lb here, prior to that, and Musical Touch looks a solid option.
4.40 Pontefract: Love Is The Law
Described as a filly with plenty about her physically, Love is The Law may just have taken a little time to get going this season, but the signs have definitely been strong recently.
She has finished in the frame in two handicaps at this level on her past two starts, and was not quite quick enough to defeat Knights Gold, who looks to be rapidly on the up and had a crack 7lb claimer on board, last time out.
That form may well prove to be strong, though, and the effort showed that George Scott’s filly is coming to the boil.
