Monday tips: six selections for the action on Racing TV

Andy Stephens (AS) and Johnny Ward mark your card for the action at Ayr and Roscommon. Watch how their selections fare live on the channel.

1.30 Ayr: Folk Pageant

Half Sovereign was an eye-catching fourth at Redcar when she finished best of all but the most interesting one here is Folk Pageant, who makes her debut for Charlie Johnston.
This daughter of Masar is out of a dam who has produced five winners, including dual Group Two winner Loxley, and it’s no surprise that her connections have waited for the 7f juveniles races to come along before introducing her, given the stamina in her pedigree.
Johnston has his two-year-olds in great order, with his strike-rate being eight winners from 33 runners, and the stable undoubtedly ring this race in their calendar. They have landed it three times since 2019 with Walk In Marrakesh, March Law and Dornoch Castle, plus fielded the runner-up each time when missing out. (AS)

2.00 Ayr: Sure And Steadfast

Stepping up to ten furlongs promises to suit the lightly raced Sure And Steadfast, who kept on well when fourth to Impartiality over a mile at Hamilton last time and has plenty of stamina on the dam’s side of his pedigree.
That Hamilton run was his first handicap on turf – and first since being gelded – and it needs marking up as he met some trouble with two furlongs to run just as the race was hotting up. Consequently, he was only eighth fastest (of 11 runners) through the penultimate furlong before being up able to pick up again and be faster than all bar the winner in the final furlong.
The form of that race, exclusively for three-year-olds, also looks strong for the grade. Impartiality followed up at Chester and is now rated 13lb higher, while the runner-up and seventh have gained subsequent wins. The third, fifth and sixth have also since made the frame. (AS)

3.00 Ayr: Abduction

Abduction halted a frustrating 19-race losing sequence when staying on well to get up at Hamilton last time.
Some will be wary of him gaining back-to-back victories but that latest success had been brewing for a while, with the drop back to 6f, coupled with softish ground and a decent gallop, clearly serving him well.
Abduction did well to get up that day, being only ninth of the 14 runners at halfway and with three or four lengths to find with the leaders in the final furlong.
He’s been pushed up 4lb in the ratings, but it was only 12 months ago that his mark was 9lb higher, and he’s won off 7lb higher in the past. A draw next to front-running Danzan should help him, too. (AS)
This Newcomer To Hurdling Appeals

5.15 Ayr: Paper Doll

This lightly raced mare has had shaped well in all three of her starts for Tristan Davidson and it looks only a matter of time before she gets her head in front.
She was a close third at Catterick on her stable debut, in a blankest finish, and kept on well when filling the same place at Hamilton next time.
The daughter of Australia was only sixth at Newcastle last time, but she was beaten little more than a length and got little opportunity to properly engaged top gear. Given a clear run, she would surely have again been placed at the least.
This does not look the deepest of races, with Billy No Mates and Trojan Soldier the only others on my shortlist. (AS)
