Tony Martin and Colin Keane team up for Group One glory in Italy

Sun 29 Oct 2017

Laganore gave trainer Tony Martin and jockey Colin Keane a first Group One success when landing the Premio Lydia Tesio at Capannelle in Rome.

Keane, involved in an epic battle with Pat Smullen in the race for the Irish jockeys' championship, made the most of a blank day on the Flat at home with a lucrative trip to Italy for County Meath-based Martin, who is better known for his successes at the major jump tracks.

The five-year-old Laganore took the mile-and-a-quarter feature for fillies and mares by two lengths from A Raving Beauty, with five lengths back to the Archie Watson-trained Absolute Blast in third place.
