Katie Midwinter shares her five best bets between the meetings at Ascot, plus Punchestown, where she likes one chalked up at chunky odds, and can be watched live on Racing TV.
3.10 Ascot: Coppull
Clive Cox struck with Jasour in this race two years ago and is represented by promising sprinter Coppull in this year's renewal.
The son of Bated Breath claimed Group Two success last term at Goodwood, beating subsequent dual Group One winner Puerto Rico by two lengths, before finishing a close third to the re-opposing Wise Approach and Brussels in the Middle Park Stakes.
Whilst he needs to reverse form with the pair ahead of him at Newmarket, there's little between them on that formline and Coppull could be capable of showing enough progression to reverse the form on his reappearance.
3.45 Ascot: Holloway Boy
Likeable gelding Holloway Boy was narrowly denied in handicap company here on British Champions Day, before going on to record Listed success at Kempton. He performed well once again at Meydan over the winter months, as well as Doha, finishing third to Opera Ballo at Group One level, as well as placing in a Group Two.
Proven at this level and having performed consistently well over the past year or so, the Karl Burke-trained contender should be able to make his presence felt and could be worth keeping onside under William Buick.
4.50 Punchestown: Kala Conti (E/W)
Kala Conti shouldn't be discounted in this Grade Two contest, capable of posing a threat on her day if recovered from her Aintree fall. Back against her own sex here, the six-year-old makes only her fifth start over the larger obstacles and remains open to further progression.
Earlier in the season, she beat Kargese by 16 lengths in a Cork Grade Two, following on from a dominant first appearance over fences, shaping with great potential. The Cullentra contender had previously shown a high level of ability over hurdles, and has taken well enough to chasing so far to suggest she can put in a creditable effort.
5.30 Ascot: Tilted Kilt
Four-year-old gelding Tilted Kilt returned to the winners' enclosure at Southwell when last seen, in his first win since a debut success at Kempton. A 4lb rise may not be enough to deter his progression and he makes appeal from a mark of 87.
Things didn't pan out favourably for him in the second half of last season, but he had shown great potential earlier in the campaign with runner-up efforts behind now 111-rated Dividend and 94-rated Teroomm, respectively. He remains on a workable mark and could be competitive for the in-form William Knight.
6.00 Punchestown: Bon Viveur (E/W)
Bon Viveur could outrun his odds for Willie Mullins and Brian Hayes in this Punchestown Grade One.
The six-year-old remains unexposed in only his fourth start over hurdles, having won two from three so far including a Grade Three prize at Thurles. He faces a quicker surface for the first time but, although softer ground has appeared to suit, he's untried on better ground and there's good ground form in the family.
The son of Flemensfirth showed a good attitude to bounce back to form when last seen following a disappointing effort at Navan, and remains open to further improvement. He's an imposing type who shouldn't be underestimated and could fare better than an early price of 25-1 suggests.
