Jim Goldie, trainer of Tommy G, said: “Winning at Musselburgh means we have to try for the £100,000
bonus and we have got a chance. Harry Russell is back on board – he gets on well with the horse and knows him well having won three races together. The horse, who is named after one of my grandsons, has been in good form at home since Musselburgh but he has generally raced on quicker ground.”
There is also a Sunday Series Bonus of £100,000 for any jockey who rides a total of seven winners across the three fixtures, and Ben Curtis, with two winners from the opening fixture, has six chances to add to his tally.
In addition, £10,000 will be awarded to the staff of the stable, which sends out most winners during the Series.
Keith Dalgleish (4 runners), Jim Goldie (4), Philip Makin (2), Marco Botti (4) and Grant Tuer (3), who all were on the mark at Musselburgh, have declared runners. In addition, Sky Bet will offer increased Best-Turned-Out prizes of £250 per race (£125 to the winner, £75 for second and £25 for third).
The Sky Bet Sunday Series is an industry-wide collaboration between Racecourse Media Group, Sky Bet, ITV,, Musselburgh, Haydock Park and Sandown Park, which will showcase the sport in a twilight slot on terrestrial television this summer.
Dickon White, North West Regional Director for Jockey Club Racecourses, including Haydock Park, said: “We’re delighted to stage the second leg of the SkyBet Sunday Series at Haydock Park. It’s a fantastic initiative which will hopefully help to attract the next generation of racing fans. There’s good prize-money on offer for the day which has helped attract a decent number of runners.”
Sandown Park will host the third of the Series on August 22.
