Kimberlite Candy is set to be dropped in class after a disappointing run on Trials Day at Cheltenham. The point-to-point graduate bolted up on his debut under Rules in an Ascot maiden hurdle in November and proved that effort was no flash in the pan with a similarly dominant display at Newcastle the following month. However, he was pulled up in the Neptune Investment Management Classic Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham last month and trainer Tom Lacey is now keen to lower his stable star's sights. He said: " I think he was just taken off his feet at Cheltenham. "He has come out the race fine and you would not know he has had a run. Barry (Geraghty) did the right thing by pulling him up. "He was taken out of his comfort zone and it was a massive step up in class."There is a 0-145 handicap which he could go for or a Pertemps qualifier at Exeter."He won't be going to the Festival this year. We will just take small steps and take our time with him."
