Top tipster Dave Nevison has four bets across three meetings on Thursday, with selections at Carlisle, Epsom and on Day One of the July Festival at Newmarket. Watch every race live on Racing TV!
4.20 Carlisle: Creative Queen
Creative Queen made all when winning at Yarmouth when blinkered for the first time at Yarmouth recently.
She was upped to seven furlongs and handicap company for her latest start, but failed to stay and was very disappointing. This drop back to a stiff six furlongs might well suit her better and she can resume her progress.
She is clearly no superstar and is not going to recoup the £800,000 her owners forked out for her, but Haggas makes less mistakes than most when placing his horses in handicaps and Creative Queen can return to form here.
4.55 Carlisle: Supreme Clarets
Supreme Clarets will have to challenge wide from stall 11, but I am not hugely concerned with the draw at this track and I don’t expect Warren Fentiman to waste too much energy earlier.
The Fahey gelding has taken the eye in three unplaced efforts where he had varying degrees of bad luck in running before he went very close last time out.
He only just failed to peg back the all the way leader at Musselburgh and, off the same mark here, he can make amends, especially as the stiffer track is likely to suit over this trip.
5.20 Newmarket: Asmen Warrior
Asmen Warrior was well backed for a hot Epsom handicap at the Derby meeting but everything went wrong for him and he was eased out of things once it was clear he wouldn’t figure.
I am happy to put a line through that run and prefer to look at the excellent penultimate start when narrowly beaten at Windsor to assess his chance in this.
He is 3lb higher, but is drawn near to the pace here and should have plenty of chance to take a favoured prominent position.
James Owen’s gelding ran very well on his only other appearance at this track and he can go well again.
7.50 Epsom: Rage Of Thunder
I am sticking with Rage Of Thunder who won cosily last time after showing promise in most of his runs this year.
The Moore’s gelding certainly seemed to appreciate the step back up to six furlongs last time and also seemed suited by weaving through rivals after being held-up.
The six-year-old has been raised 5lb for that success, but ran really well off today’s mark in late summer last year so I definitely don’t think the handicapper will be the issue here. He definitely goes particularly well for Tom Queally.
