The Wizard Of Eye has the magic touch again at Ascot

History repeated itself in the Carey Group Victoria Cup at Ascot when The Wizard Of Eye action replayed his 2024 triumph in the £100,000 feature.

The seven-year-old has not clocked many racing miles over the last couple of seasons, but trainer Tom Clover had him primed for this target which was the reward for a carefully worked plan.

The chestnut – who scored for Charlie Fellowes two years ago – winters at Neil Callan’s stud, and the jockey explained that everything went perfectly to plan.

He said: “He’s had a few niggly problems and Tom has trained him kindly to have him fresh.

“That approach has paid off in the past and especially when he won this two years ago.

“He travels so well that the only problem I envisaged was hitting the front too early.”

The winner was returned at 20-1 and beat Great Acclaim by a length.

Tribal Chief stayed on to finish third but gamble of the race, Mudbir (3-1), disappointed and was never seen with a chance.
