Top tipster Dave Nevison was in flying form at Royal Ascot and marks your card for the action from Carlisle live on Racing TV.
3.30 Carlisle: Barley
Will Barley strike again at Carlisle on Wednesday?
Barley won this corresponding race two years ago from a 5lb higher mark and was subsequently runner up twice over this course and distance so clearly goes extremely well at Carlisle.
He lost his form for a while but has regained consistency recently and looks to be knocking at the door for another win.
He is best in a mile handicap run at a decent pace and this looks a good opportunity to end an overly long losing run.
4.35 Carlisle: Financer
I went for Financer as a lively outsider on his penultimate start and felt I had hit on a live one when his price collapsed from 16/1 to 11/2 but he ran what has become a typical race, not settling well and not progressing close home.
The bare form was decent however, as was his subsequent run in a much more competitive event at York, where he finished in front of next time out winner Leadenhall (now 2lb better off).
Tim Easterby must be getting as frustrated as Financer’s backers but he has changed two things for this, firstly the drop down in trip which could well enable him to settle better especially in a race set to be run at a very strong pace. Blinkers have also been applied for the first time which may help him focus better close home.
I have no doubt Financer is capable of winning a race such as this but don’t know how many chances I will give him if he blows out again.
5.05 Carlisle: Wine Dark Sea
It is hard to see past the strength of Wine Dark Sea’s reappearance win at Ascot in the context of this 0-85 event.
He had subsequent Royal Ascot winner Opportunity behind in third place and went past the post with ears pricked and could surely have been raised more than 5lb for such an easy win.
He started winning at Kempton last August and signed off last season with being narrowly beaten by Yabher, who won a 0-100 this season and beating Daiquiri Bay who also won at Royal Ascot last week.
He has 10st 1lb to carry here but looks well up to the task of winning this 0-85 and it will be a surprise if he does not progress much further up the ranks after this.
