The Score's top horse racing tips for Monday

The Score's top horse racing tips for Monday

After a giddy weekend brimming with top-class action, the fare on Monday is naturally of a much lower standard.
However, there are still 30 puzzles to solve and I’ve had a go at cracking four of them.
The Racing TV cameras will capture the action at Thirsk and Kempton Park. Once racing is over, don’t miss Gary O’Brien’s interview with Gordon Elliott (8.30pm) plus The Verdict with Angus McNae half an hour later.
2.10 Brighton: Recall The Show at 5-1 with William Hill
This is a trappy six-runner event but I’m surprised Recall The Show is available at 5-1 as he’s 2/2 at the track, just 1lb higher than when last successful and been running consistently all summer.
The four-year-old’s past three efforts on the July Course at Newmarket have all been creditable but it’s a bit puzzling we haven’t seen him more at Brighton, given he clicked twice in the space of ten days at the seaside course in April.
Those victories, in similar contests, were achieved on good to firm going off marks of 75 and 77. He will line up on similar ground on Monday rated 78 with the one younger horse in the field, Great News, the favourite, seemingly having no excuses for his recent defeats.
3.40 Thirsk: Harvest Day at a general 14-1

16:30 Thirsk - Monday September 16
Lady Rockstar is a short-priced favourite but the Frankel filly is proving expensive to follow – she’s been beaten in each of her four races at 3-1 or shorter – and first-time blinkers will not be for decoration.
Harvest Day has a few quirks of her own and is unlikely to ever slot into the “reliable” category, but that’s offset by her double-figure price.
She won the 2019 running of this race off a mark of 71, and was an eye-catching third in last year’s renewal when not getting the rub of the green. Watch her win from two years ago, above.
Her habit of starting slowly has not helped her in recent starts, including last time at Doncaster, but she’s slipped back to a mark of 66 and one of her best efforts this year was again at this venue.
4.00 Worcester: Push The Tempo at a general 13-2
Push The Tempo been a bit disappointing since winning his first three races under Rules and lines up here having not won for three years, but that does not tell the whole story as he’s only run ten times in that period.
There was plenty of encouragement in his latest effort, when chasing home Fair Mountain at Market Rasen, as he tanked through the race only to spoil his prospects with untidy leaps at the final two hurdles. The pair pulled clear, with Dan Skelton-trained winner taking advantage of a tumbling mark.
Push The Tempo generally goes well fresh, so his 116-day absence since then counts as a positive, plus he’s had a wind operation in the interim. This 2m7f will be the furthest he has run over, but two of his wins were over an extended 2m5f and he kept on willingly enough last time.
Hopefully, the excellent Tom O’Brien, on board for two of his wins, will be able to smuggle him to the front late on.
7.15 Kempton Park: Cry Havoc at 15-2 with Willima Hill
All four of my fancies on Monday come with caveats, but that’s often the case when looking beyond the market leaders.
The niggle with Cry Havoc is that she’s been off for ten months, but the 15-2 available is a big price on form and has won when fresh in the past.
She disappointed when tried in Listed company over a mile here on her final start of 2020, but the trip/company probably stretched her, while that subsequent absence points to something possibly also being amiss that night.
Cry Havoc had done nothing but improve in her previous six starts, including when placed in a Newmarket handicap off a mark of 92 when making her debut on turf. She is generously able to run off 3lb lower here and there’s no reason to think she cannot resume her rise up the ranks.
