The Grade Three novices’ chase at Roscommon takes centre stage on
Racing TV and is now the sole meeting on Racing TV this afternoon after Hamilton was abandoned on Monday morning.
If you end up needing something to put a smile on your face today, then make sure you watch Gary Wiltshire’s appearance on Luck On Sunday.
He was in fabulous form and his re-telling of how he lost £1.4 million at Ascot 25 years ago, when Frankie Dettori rode all seven winners on the card, never gets old.
2.15 Hamilton Park: Ey Up It’s Maggie at 11-8 with bet365 and William Hill
Now a non-runner (Hamilton abandoned)
2.45 Hamilton Park: Bashosh at 100-30 with William Hill
Now a non-runner (Hamilton abandoned)
3.35 Roscommon: Bold Enough at 3-1 with bet365
It will not be long until the jumpers are holding centre stage and this Grade Three novice chase should help whet the appetite for the months ahead.
Druid’s Altar and Hurricane Georgie are four-year-olds with more to offer but Bold Enough, trained by Henry de Bromhead, looks the most solid option.
He ran well in a competitive handicap hurdle at Aintree’s
Grand National meeting but, like so many from the yard, seems even better over fences.
His jumping was most assured when he won at Wexford and this track at the start of the new season, and his subsequent narrow defeat over 2m2f at the Galway Festival probably needs marking up as he was conceding weight to the pair who beat him and in hindsight probably hit the front too soon.
He had Druid’s Altar more than eight lengths behind that day and, while the weight-for-age scale has naturally brought them closer, he is 9lb better off.
7.30 Newcastle: Musahaba at 5-1 with William Hill
It’s taken a while for him to click for the David O’Meara yard after beginning his career in Ireland, but he bolted up here over 7f last Friday and should make a bold bid to defy his 5lb penalty.
He tanked through that race and, perhaps significantly, David Nolan bided his time before inviting him to put his stamp on the race in the closing stages.
That had not been the case when he was beaten at Newcastle on his penultimate start after trading at long odds-on in-running. Lexington Warfare collared him late on but I’ll be surprised if he can confirm that form, even on 3lb better terms.
This race is over a furlong further but, with no habitual front-runner in the line-up, Musahaba’s pace could be pivotal. Expect Nolan to again play a waiting game before hopefully cutting down rivals when it matters most.
Fennaan and Wild Hope are well-handicapped on then pick of their form, but excuses for them are wearing thin.
