Five horses to follow on Sunday at Fairyhouse and Cork

This high-class, dual-purpose performer pulled too hard when contesting the William Hill County Hurdle for the third time at Cheltenham Festival last time out, a race he won in 2024 plus finished third in a year later.

His early exuberance took a toll late on, and while he usually goes well fresh, that effort, which was his first start for 129 days, should have at least taken the freshness out of him, and this looks an ideal opportunity to get back on track.

If he settles better here under Harry Cobden, who guided him to victory at Plumpton last year, then he should take all the beating, with Ndaawi the obvious danger. The rest need to take a sizeable step forward, based on ratings.

Willie Mullins has won this race three times in the last five years and can land it again with He’s On Fire. This horse was a very impressive 20-length winner at Carlisle on his debut for the yard and, after that success there was talk of him running in the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

A return to action here in this Graded event could preface a fruitful spring campaign and is the one to beat with Paul Townend taking over in the saddle.

This novice is a superb jumper and of great interest dropping back to 2m for his handicap bow. His individual Jump Index scores have been 9.1, 9.2 and 8.9 and he’s gained an average of more than ten lengths per race.
