Stage Magic conjures winning run for Godolphin in Chantilly Group Three

Sun 3 Sep 2017

Stage Magic claimed Group Three honours for Godolphin with a game performance in the Prix des Chenes at Chantilly.

Charlie Appleby's colt was quickly to the fore under James Doyle and stayed strong and straight to narrowly deny the onrushing Olmedo, the hot favourite from Jean-Claude Rouget's yard.

Zyzzyvam, trained in Newmarket by Robyn Brisland, showed up well for a long way and was not beaten far into third place.

Appleby told "I am delighted with Stage Magic, who was suited by the ease in the ground.

"He led at a nice gallop and picked up strongly.

"He will be even better as a three-year-old when racing over further.

"We have plenty of two-year-olds doing well and so we will see how he comes out this race plus consider the others before making further plans for him."
