Alex Scott nailed the first two home in last year’s Sky Bet Ebor and bids to go one better this time around. Below are his three against the field in Saturday’s £500,000 feature, live on Racing TV.

Klassleader
T: William Haggas. J: Tom Marquand. Draw: 13. Best odds: 13-2.
The lightly-raced son of Lope De Vega has already run at York this season, when coming from off the pace over a mile and a half to win a key trial for this in taking style.
Though he disappointed at Newmarket last time, better can be expected here on softer ground, especially since his dam Klassique, a daughter of Galileo and Matron Stakes heroine Chachamaidee, handled soft ground well and won the Pinnacle Stakes on heavy.
Tom Marquand has a nice draw in stall 13, an area where several winners have come from over the past decade, and Klassleader’s current mark of 98 could prove to be a lenient one stepping back up in trip in what is likely to be a thorough test of stamina.
This race has been his target since his impressive victory here in the spring and he rates a big player.

Emit
T: Joseph O’Brien. J: Ryan Moore. Draw: 11. Best odds: 7-1.
A beautifully-bred four-year-old from a Niarchos dynasty including Shiva and Light Shift, Emit looks to have solid each-way claims in this year’s Ebor after some fine efforts in defeat over the past twelve months.
Joseph O’Brien’s gelding advertised his stamina credentials twice towards the end of last season when finishing second in two Longchamp Group races over 1m7f and, this season, he ran well in third behind Scandinavia over this trip, finishing ahead of Carmers.
Though he has had 15 races, his first start in handicap company did not come until this June, where he caught the eye staying on from the rear to grab fourth over this trip at the Curragh.
Generously dropped another 2lb, he then filled the same spot at Royal Ascot when again looking a shade unlucky, and has been put away for this race since off an unchanged mark.
Ascending
T: Henry de Bromhead. J: Oisin Orr. Draw: 9. Best odds: 25-1.
Ground versatile and returning to the race he was second in last year off the same mark, there are lots of positive regarding Ascending’s credentials for this race and I am surprised to see him chalked up at 25-1.
This year’s Ebor has the potential to turn into a real test of stamina and there aren’t many horses in this year’s Ebor who stay as well as Henry de Bromhead’s seven-year-old.
He has, though, showed tactical speed when required (he first ran over 6f for Clive Cox) and he ran a cracker last year, only finding subsequent Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Ethical Diamond too strong.
Though he has again been beaten in four runs since, he has not run at all badly in strong races, such as the Saggaro Stakes and Copper Horse, and last time he again shaped with credit when given a mammoth task in the Ballyroan Stakes over an inadequate trip.
A return to the Knavesmire and a return to handicap company can see him fare much better.
