Arlington Million second favourite Scottish has ben ruled out of Saturday’s Group One contest in Chicago with an injury.
Charlie Appleby’s Godolphin runner breezed at Arlington on Thursday morning and was found to be lame when he cooled down.
The injury is to the five-year-old’s near-fore fetlock and is a recurrence of the problem that forced the gelding out of the Mackinnon Stakes in Flemington Australia, in November.
"It's a real blow," Appleby said from his Newmarket base.
"He had been working really well since returning from Royal Ascot in June, and the trip to the States was very much a prelude to spending the Australian Spring in Melbourne.
"But that's all off the agenda now. The good news is that long-term the prognosis is good.”
Appleby added that Scottish, who was as short as 7-2 with Ladbrokes, would now be aimed at the Dubai World Cup Carnival at Meydan next year.
Scottish finished a gutsy second to Jameka in last year's Group One Caulfield Cup and was also one of eight international invitees for the Group One Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 28.
