Down Royal ground staff were in a difficult position on Friday evening, fresh from Gordon Elliott's criticism ahead of the track's big day.

This might be the hottest year on record on the island of Ireland, and it is not a track's prerogative to provide winter soft ground in October, with Wetherby and Ascot having firm in their going description as of Friday.

Yet the prospect of a spate of non-runners can only alarm Down Royal officials – especially given how much Elliott backs and loves this meeting, one Willie Mullins tends to be quiet in. Notably, Mullins pulled out horses on Friday, too.

Between that, a 11.20 start at Newmarket, Wetherby and the Breeders' Cup going into Sunday, this is one hell of a day to be a racing fan! Enjoy all the racing live on Racing TV.

1.40 Newmarket: Accumulation

11/1

What price would this horse be if Bengal Tiger were not running?

He is beautifully bred, and was an impressive maiden winner on debut for Aidan O’Brien. He also looked all class there, and I cannot let him go unbacked at 14-1 under Declan McDonogh.

2.38 Down Royal: Dinoland

7/1

The prevailing ground ought to suit this eight-year-old, who is one of the few who makes much appeal and, trained by Ross Crawford, this has surely been his aim for some time.

He retains the potential to do more after two easy wins the last twice chasing.

3.15 Down Royal: Haiti Couleurs

11/2

Assuming Rebecca Curtis, whose horses are in good form, is right about this horse's well-being, he cannot be an 11-2 chance.

He won over hurdles off a high mark on his seasonal return last year and, at his best, he is more than good enough to win this. There's also a chance he will secure a soft lead, and Paul Townend is booked.

3.50 Down Royal: Kala Conti

10/3

I tipped Koktail Divin at this meeting last year, and he was destroyed by Romeo Coolio, his best form since going left-handed.

However, this mare looks the value, at the prices, getting significant weight off him.
