The Ballydoyle mastermind became the most successful trainer in Breeders’ Cup history last year and once again sends a strong hand over to Keeneland to add to his tally.
Juvenile Fillies Turf - Sun Goddess
O’Brien’s best chance of the meeting may come in the form of his first runner, Sun Goddess.
Arguably the best two-year-old filly of the season, this daughter of Sioux Nation will be bidding to follow up her Cheveley Park success and make it a sixth successive victory in the Juvenile Fillies Turf.
She holds the best form in this race by far, making her a worthy odds-on favourite and is not to be opposed.
Juvenile Turf - Great Barrier Reef & Haffner
O’Brien will be hoping to get the better of son Jospeh who trains the favourite Folsom Blues in the Juvenile Turf with one of the four colts he saddles in the race.
His best chance looks to come between Haffner, ridden by Christophe Soumillon, and Great Barrier Reef, the choice of Ryan Moore.
Already victorious over a mile, Royal Lodge winner Haffner has an ideal draw in stall 4 but does hold the inferior form of the pair and has plenty to find with Folsom Blues, who beat him out of sight in the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes.
Coventry winner Great Barrier Reef has been unable to get his head in front since that stellar Ascot performance and takes the step up to a mile for the first time here.
This longer trip should be no issue when looking at his pedigree and he ran creditably when denied a clear run over seven furlongs in a deep Dewhurst last time out, but he must overcome a nightmarishly wide draw from stall 14.
However, the favourite has not been granted an easy trip either being drawn in stall 10 and I can see Great Barrier Reef making the most of his class to emulate Gstaad in being victorious in this race from stall 14.
Filly & Mare Turf - Precise
Precise faces what looks to be a tough task against the incredible Blue Bolt in the Filly & Mare Turf on Saturday.
This daughter of Starspangledbanner made a strong start to the season, highlighted by her Irish 1000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes successes, but has failed to add to her tally since the Royal meeting.
That said, she has run plenty of creditable races in defeat but looks to be up against it with the faultless Blue Bolt seeking to extend her unbeaten record this season to seven races.
Breeders' Cup Mile - Puerto Rico & True Love
O’Brien is double-handed in the Breeders’ Cup Mile with Puerto Rico and Classic winning filly True Love.
Ryan Moore has sided with former, but Puerto Rico's form leaves him with plenty to find with the favourite, exceptional miler Notable Speech.
True Love returned to winning ways in the Prix de la Foret and looks the more hopeful of the Ballydoyle pair, as reflected in the betting, but I fail to see her getting the better of Notable Speech, who is very hard to fault.
Breeders' Cup Turf - Diamond Necklace & Benvenuto Cellini
Another pair of Ballydoyle runners head the betting in the Breeders’ Cup Turf, with Diamond Necklace the favourite but Benvenuto Cellini the preference of Ryan Moore.
Diamond Necklace has enjoyed a fine season and ran out a very creditable third in the Arc and, despite being once again evaded by Ryan Moore, looks more than capable of being victorious here.
Irish Derby winner Benvenuto Cellini has struggled to get into the mix on his last two outings but has a much more ideal draw of stall 2 than his stablemate who suffers a wide draw in stall 12.
The turf feature boasts a strong field including Arc second Bay City Roller and last year’s winner Ethical Diamond, but Diamond Necklace has been a classy filly all season and should be capable of overcoming the wide draw here.
