1.15 Haydock: Park Annonciade
Stuart Crawford’s six-year-old has some desperate form figures by his name but they do not tell the full story.
Park Annonciade has pulled up and fallen in two recent starts over fences but both runs offered plenty of promise.
He won this corresponding race last season very easily and is just 2lb higher than he was there, having been dropped back down the weights due to getting beaten in races over too short a trip for him.
Ben Bromley won on him last year and is back on board. Providing Park Annonciade is over his fall over fences last time, then he has a solid chance in a competitive race.
2.30 Haydock: One Big Bang
I was with Doyen Quest last weekend and never really had a moment of worry after his mistake at the second. A 5lb penalty still has him very well treated and I would not put anyone off going in again.
However, there is not a trainer in the country in better form than James Owen and One Big Bang looks to be another of his runners to be improving rapidly.
One Big Bang won twice at the backend of last season, including over course and distance. He reappeared at the end of October and attempted to give 10lb to the useful chaser Hymac, who was race fit, and got to within 1¾ lengths of him.
A mark of 124 looks very manageable and the booking of a 7lb claimer Calum Hogan looks interesting.
Owen has used the Irish-based Hogan to ride a winner already this season and it could be significant that this race has been won by three 7lb claimers and another claiming 5lb in the past tenyears.
In a race where bookies are offering extra places, I am happy to take on the favourite.

3.05 Haydock: Ahoy Senor
Ahoy Senor seems to have been around for ever and if it was not for jumping errors he might well have made it to the very top.
He has usually been a front-runner but tactics were changed for his reappearance at Aintree last time and the signs were very encouraging.
He still made one mistake, but his jumping was good and if he had closed a little earlier he might well have challenged to win.
He is back to his normal distance and will be well suited by the step back up in trip. If he has progressed for that reappearance and puts in a clear round, then a big run is on the cards.
3.40 Haydock: Hititi
Hititi did well over fences when he reappeared at Chepstow recently, finishing second in a 14runner event and looking comfortable with the bigger obstacles.
This is his second attempt at chasing and he has become a much-improved performer over hurdles since he was first tried over fences.
He certainly looks as though he has the potential to progress, and he can take advantage of a lower mark. Brian Hughes looks a very solid booking.
