1.15 Haydock: Great Chieftain

Tipster: Dave Nevison.
Best odds:
Great Chieftain was so consistent last season winning three handicaps, and won so well last time out that, now he has hit form this season, he looks a pretty obvious candidate to strike again here.
The Paul & Oliver Cole-trained contender is now 20lb higher than when he started his winning run in July last year, but he defeated an in-form rival comfortably at Newmarket this month, so I don’t believe his 6lb higher mark here would have stopped him winning there.
He goes well on fast ground and all four of his wins so far have come over a mile. A victory here would also guarantee him a run in the Royal Hunt Cup, which is clearly his Ascot target.

2:45 Beverley: Old Is Gold

Tipster: Martin Dixon.
Best odds: 2-1.
A horse picked up for 200,000 guineas at the Breeze-Ups, he's a son of Mehmas out of a five-furlong winner so he has a very fast, precocious pedigree and his debut effort at Ascot is already looking like strong form - the winner Military Code is 2-from-2 and Royal Ascot bound and the runner-up Fitzella was a wide-margin winner at Haydock on Friday afternoon.
He mixed it with those two for a long way and travelled strongly before just getting a little tired late on, as if that debut run would bring him forward. It might be that he doesn't need to improve a great deal on that form to win this, but I would nevertheless expect him to have come on for the experience.
The early betting market is headed by a Karl Burke-trained newcomer for Wathnan Racing and he's obviously got to be respected, but it isn't easy winning a race of this nature first time out, even if the same trainer and owner did it in this race last year with Shareholder! I think Old Is Gold sets a high standard here and I'm taking his experience to count.

3.00 Haydock: Arizona Blaze

Tipster: Alex Scott.
Best odds: 9-2.
A hugely consistent sprinter, he has yet to finish outside of the first four and only one has he finished outside of the first three in 12 starts.
He won twice last year and amongst his many top performances came placed efforts in the Phoenix Stakes over 6f, as well as the Norfolk Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint over 5f.
A strong traveller that is likely to be up with the pace, he has had three starts this season and has won on two of them, with his only defeat coming when third behind Henri Matisse over 7f at Leopardstown. He was an easy winner of the Group Three Prix Sigy over five and a half at Chantilly last time out and looks set for another big run yet again.

3.40 Curragh: Field Of Gold

Tipster: Andy Stephens.
Best odds: Evens.
It's difficult to escape the claims of Field Of Gold, who had Scorthy Champ and Expanded well adrift in the Betfred 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. The latter looks a big price to bounce back, while we simply don't know how good Cosmic Year may be.
Andy's predicted 1-2-3: 1 FIELD OF GOLD. 2 EXPANDED. 3 COSMIC YEAR.

3.55 Beverley: Diligent Resdev

Tipster: Harry Allwood.
Best odds: 11-4.
I'm sure it was not just my Racing TV Tracker that Diligent Resdev went into following his effort in the Schweppes Victoria Cup a fortnight ago where the four-year-old travelled powerfully before fading into fifth.
He probably hit the front a shade too early there, and helped set the race up for a closer, but it was a promising run nonetheless, and he's been dropped a pound since.
This contest represents a big drop in grade for the selection who won two decent handicaps last year, including one over seven furlongs, and won the Virgin Bet Ayr Bronze Cup with a bit to spare on his final outing last season.
He also caught the eye on his first outing this term when staying on to finish third (again over seven furlongs) and that was another effort that suggested an extra half furlong will not be a negative here, especially on good to firm ground.
The selection did disappoint on his sole start on quicker ground last season, although he endured traffic problems there, and was not seen to best effect.
His strong cruising speed suggests this surface will not be a hinderance, and he should have enough class to overcome a wide draw.
