The turf Flat season returned with a bang on Saturday with a strong looking renewal of the Lincoln.
Daddy looked a genuine Group horse in the making and there was no disguising the twinkle in William Haggas’ eye as he readily mentioned such contests as being on the agenda for the horse in the short rather than medium term.
Addeybb looked a bit special when romping home in the Lincoln (Racingfotos)
With the next three home all rated 104 and above, the form looks very solid even allowing for the fact that all the principals raced in the same group towards the far side and it will be no surprise if Lord Glitters and Mitchum Swagger can also be competitive in Listed and Group 3 contests at the very least.
Given a low draw seemed to be an advantage in the Lincoln and the Spring Mile then two horses that shaped better than the bare from looked to be Leader Writer who did his best to overcome the disadvantage of stall 21 but still had to come down the centre in the Lincoln and Kynren whose rider got isolated in a poor position tactically in the Spring Mile and ran a mighty race to finish third.
Both will be players in similar races in the near future with Newbury’s Spring Cup next month springing to mind.
All-weather Flat cards outnumber jumping two to one on Tuesday and it is one of those cards that throws up the first selection in:
2.00 Southwell: Monks Stand
Looked to have found his niche when scoring over course and distance on his second start for John Mackie. He was highly tried as young horse when with Jeremy Noseda and had fallen such a long way in the ratings that the 4lb higher mark should not prove beyond him.
2.45 Hereford: Three Ways
With the yard still quiet and the memory of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory when a selection a few weeks ago, Rolling Dylan looks worth opposing.
Three Ways has had a wind operation since a below-par run at Newbury but before that had looked to be settling in nicely over fences with good efforts at both Wetherby and Catterick.
3.45 Hereford: Mrs Burbidge
Versatile mare who put up a much better effort over fences at Plumpton than she had on her chasing debut a year earlier. A chasing mark 10lb below her hurdle rating looks generous, especially as her Plumpton conqueror Stoical Patient has upheld the form in subsequent starts.
4.15 Hereford: Bridane Rebel
Not missed by the handicapper after a comfortable win at Market Rasen in a similar contest but still could have more to offer with the yard in good heart and still being relatively unexposed at the trip.
David Noonan clearly gets on well with her having ridden her to both her successes.
