This looks quite a competitive mares’ novice hurdle, but hurdling debutante Neetside appeals as an each-way option at the prices.
She went into my notebook, as a horse to follow, when runner up at Newton Abbot in May and she also shaped encouragingly when a close fifth, in a big field, at Warwick last month.
She is bred to go on very soft ground and the further the better so should this race become attritional she should be staying on at the end.
Choral Clan is one of my favourite horses in training and he did a good job for us last time when he won a claimer at Newcastle at 3-1.
The handicapper has helped by leaving Choral Clan on the same mark and therefore he fits into this 0-70 handicap.
He is stepping back up to 10f today but was half a length second in an identical race, off the same mark, two starts ago and with that confidence-boosting win last time he should be ready to go in again.
6:18 Aqueduct - Preservationist:
Hopefully the patience of owners Centennial Farms and trainer Jimmy Jerkens will be rewarded by this big imposing son of Arch.
Connections described him as their most exciting ever purchase ahead of his debut at Belmont in June of last year, when he finished an encouraging second.
Since then, however, he has had numerous injuries and training setbacks. He has been working brilliantly coming into this race, including a solo gate-work on Sunday morning which was eye-popping.
He has been installed as the third favourite, at 5-2 on the American morning line and I would suggest taking the price when the British markets go up as he is likely to get heavily hit on the boards in America.
11:15 Turfway Park - Land Or Sea:
This looks an uncompetitive two-year-old fillies’ All-Weather maiden claimer, which should go the way of Land Or Sea if able to run to the same level of form as her runner-up effort, in an identical race, at the course at the beginning of the month. Having been slightly hampered at the start that day, she was rushed up to challenge wide around the home turn only to be beaten by a Ken Ramsey-owned hot-pot in Bunny Boss.
She gets a huge rider switch from Cesar Ordaz to “Scoot ‘n’ Boot” Perry Ouzts, who should make plenty of use of her stamina. The 5-2 morning line is a very attractive price.
