Monday’s Placepot pointers come from Doncaster, where we are going to be offering our Placepot Insurance. Luckily enough the cold has stayed away meaning that there was never any chance racing was going to be called off here.
There are some interesting contenders and ones to watch later in the season.
Remember, you can enter the pool with lines from as little as 1p and a total stake from 50p, plus for this meeting if you are eliminated in the first leg, we’ll refund your bet, up to £10! T&Cs apply.
How’s the going?
There is a little bit more rain due in the next 24 hours but the going is likely to stay soft heavy in places. Temperatures will only get as low as 4 degrees but it will be a slog for those horses competing. It will need a proper stayer and mudlark to win the races today.
The Big Trend:
Kim Bailey is having a brilliant season and has already managed eight more victories that last season’s total. He has only had two runners at
Doncaster this season but both have won meaning he has a 100% win record here. He has another two runners today, both of which will have chances.
Leg 5, 2:40 - Donnie Brasco Leg 6, 3:10 - Getaweapon
Placepot Banker:
STRATAGEM (Leg 3, 1:35) was very unlucky last time out when Harry Cobden was unseated at Plumpton at the first obstacle. Thebannerkingrebel then had a free ride to victory. He comes up against two smart individuals here so it will not be an easy task winning but he has the quality and if Nicholls has done his work on the jumping front then a win here is the expected outcome. One thing to keep in mind is that it is a three-runner race meaning there is a chance for a shock.
Outsiders to Consider:
His two most recent outings have been lost by a total of 28L. This is a competitive handicap chase and MONKEY PUZZLE (Leg 5, 2:40) is a likely winner now back down to the mark that he won at. Brendan Powell gets the ride who seems to have a lot of success in the first month of the year. He is consistent and is never too far out of the picture.
Torpedo Leg:
The final leg of the Placepot is the one where a lot of units can get tripped up. Getaweapon and Found On are the worthy favourites, however this is an open handicap with 15 runners meaning there are only three places available. AURORA THUNDER (3:10, Leg 6) was a pretty consistent performer who doubled career tally at Ayr in November. Step up to three miles counted against her at Carlisle since, but she looks vulnerable off this mark all the same.
Our Placepot Perm:
Leg 1: Airton, First Assembly
Leg 2: Hoi Polloi
Leg 3: Stratagem
Leg 4: L’Incorrigible
Leg 5: Monkey Puzzle
Leg 6: Aurora Thunder, Getaweapon
