Frozen Over caught the eye when second in the 2m conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle at Ludlow on Wednesday.
Chris Down's representative chased the leaders and went second before the three-furlong pole.
Driven two furlongs from home, he kept on tenaciously under pressure having saved ground under Ciaran Gethings' good ride and finished ahead of 14 rivals.
Already a course and distance winner off a 15lb higher mark, Frozen Over is well handicapped judged on this effort.
The nine-year-old is entered at Stratford on Saturday.

Across the card, Sheikspear could be worth another chance or two after a good fifth in the 7f handicap at Kempton.
Drawn in stall six, the three-year-old raced handily from the moment the stalls opened.
Chasing the leaders, he was urged along at halfway and ridden well over two furlongs out before dropping back to fifth in the final furlong.
Being on the pace was an advantage but this was a good effort and he deserves another chance or two.

On Friday Zap ran well when sixth in the 6f nursery at York but may benefit from a step up in trip, having been outpaced before running on in the closing stages.
Racing in rear, the gelded son of Mayson could not hold his position and that problem was exacerbated by a strong tailwind.
He kept on gamely under hand riding, so an extra furlong, or a stiffer track might help.
Already a course and distance winner, this two-year-old was a beaten favourite at Chester last time but caught the eye staying on strongly in a valuable two-year-old sales race at Doncaster.

On Saturday, Always Resolute was unsuited by being held-up in the slowly run 2m handicap at York.
Held-up in midfield, the well-named consistent six-year-old was shuffled back towards the rear over five out. It was the same moment at which the winner, October Storm, made a forward move into midfield.
Ridden along three furlongs out, he was unable to gain ground as the pace quickened and the leaders benefited from a tailwind.
Put a line through this performance and keep him in mind.
