Betting expert Dave Nevison has three selections at York and Newmarket, with every race and all the analysis from the meeting live on Racing TV. 1.45 York: Zarathos
There aren’t too many in this big-field 0-85 handicap who arrive at this prestigious meeting at the top of their game, but Zarathos clearly does.
He finally broke his maiden, in very good style, at Windsor last time and turns out under a penalty here.
Dylan Cunha’s gelding was in very good form for most of last season but was running particularly well at this time of year.
He looks as though he is an improved performer in 2026 and his running style up with the pace should suit York very well. I expect a good run from his middle draw.
2.32 Newmarket: Master Vintner
Master Vintner broke his maiden in a modest novice event at Goodwood on heavy ground and followed up under a penalty shortly after.
He was then plunged into the November handicap at Doncaster for his handicap debut, also on heavy ground, and he found that test too much.
He has had another winter on his back, reappears in a lesser event here, and can confirm himself a promising horse. He might be one to watch for big summer middle distance handicaps.
2.55 York: Divine Knight
Divine Knight is having his first run for William Haggas who is on fire at this meeting, and it will come as a big surprise if he doesn’t improve significantly.
He won on his racecourse debut (where he beat an odds-on Haggas runner now rated in the 90s) and he looked potentially useful.
He ran every fortnight for a couple of months and may well not have been ready for such a concentrated campaign.
He is returning and making his debut for Haggas at one of the key meetings for that stable and, with Tom Marquand up, another seasonal debut win looks very possible.
