Paggane notched made it back-to-back Listed victories when striking at Market Rasen in the feature Pertemps Network Bud Booth Mares’ Chase on Wednesday.
The former Willie Mullins inmate has been a star for fledgling handler Bramley, who is based at Sir Anthony McCoy’s pre-training yard in Lambourn.
A winner of a similar event at Carlisle recently, the six-year-old took the step up three miles in her stride in the hands of Harry Cobden, never far away from Stuart Edmunds’ defending champion and stable star Marsh Wren, who set about to make most in the hands of Charlie Hammond.
Cobden found himself in the prime position to strike aboard the even-money favourite once Hammond sent out distress signals aboard Marsh Wren, with Paggane sauntering to an eight-and-a-half-length victory, with Henry Daly’s recent Ludlow scorer Minniemum running on for second.
Paggane was handed a quote of 12-1 from 16s by Paddy Power for the Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, with Cobden thrilled to be in the winner’s enclosure again aboard the thriving mare.
He told Racing TV: “It was very straightforward and I thought the writing was on the wall for Stuart Edmunds’ mare probably from halfway down the back.
“It was a case of Paggane staying on all four feet and keeping the jockey intact and she’s obviously a lovely mare who is very straightforward and jumps well. Faye has done a brilliant job with her.
“She’s obviously a very, very good mare and travels well over three miles but is tough enough to go over two and a half. She’s very versatile and doesn’t feel ground dependent and is very genuine and honest and it also helps when they have lots of ability.
“I suppose Doncaster could be a possibility for her over Christmas and I suppose you would have to work back from the Mares’ Chase at the Festival.”
