Paddy Power Gold Cup: Entries revealed for Cheltenham feature

Entries have been revealed today for the £160,000 Paddy Power Gold, the highlight of The November Meeting at Cheltenham (Saturday 12th November).

Staged over two and a half miles, the Premier Handicap Chase was inaugurated in 1960 and is the first big race of the Jump season.

Sponsor Paddy Power has three 7-1 co-favourites – French Dynamite (Mouse Morris), Ga Law (Jamie Snowden) and Fan de Blues (Willie Mullins).

Paul Binfield of Paddy Power said: “The Paddy Power Gold Cup is the first flagship contest of the Jump season and the countdown to it is well and truly on with the entries out today.

“It looks all set to be a typically competitive renewal in 2022 and we have a trio of 7-1 co-favourites at this early stage – French Dynamite, Ga Law and Fan de Blues.

“Ga Law caught the eye after over 600 days off the track when a fine third at Aintree last weekend while French Dynamite and Fan de Blues both showed very decent form as novices last season and both are already on the scoresheet this season.

“French Dynamite and Fan de Blues have to overcome the fact that the Irish have only won the Paddy Power Gold Cup on five occasions, with the most recent of those being the Edward O’Grady-trained Tranquil Sea back in 2009. However given the Irish dominance at Cheltenham last weekend, I doubt connections are too worried by statistics!”

Dads Lad (Willie Mullins) heads the market at 5-1 with the sponsor as entries are revealed today for the £100,000 Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle. The extended two-mile Premier Handicap takes place on the final day of The November Meeting at Cheltenham (Sunday 13th November).

The seven year old Dads Lad is already on the scoresheet at the Home of Jump Racing this season, having taken the 888Sport Handicap Chase at The Showcase last weekend.

In 202 1 West Cork (Dan Skelton, 7-1 second favourite) landed the Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle on his first start in over 600 days. If successful again this time around, he would become the first horse to win the contest, which was first staged in 1987, twice.
