Paddy Brennan has praised Sam Twiston-Davies’ quick reaction that could have saved Daydream Aulmes’ life after the gelding fell two out in the Best Racing On Racing TV Handicap Hurdle at
Ascot on Saturday.
Brennan shared a post on Twitter saying Twiston-Davies had shown “unbelievable horsemanship” when he quickly caught the six-year-old after he took a heavy tumble up the home straight.
Sam Twiston-Davies was a special guest on Racing TV’s weekly breakfast programme Luck On Sunday and reacted to Brennan’s comments. He said:
“I jumped up and caught him, anyone else would have done the same.
“He was going okay, but he just clipped the top of the hurdle and fell. I was worried for the horse and wanted to make sure I caught him so the vets could see him as quickly as possible.”
Daydream Aulmes immediately got his feet after the fall but was down for some time afterwards suffering from concussion. Twiston-Davies explained that natural instinct kicked in after the fall.
“First and foremost, you always look to see where your horse is and where the horses are around you, so when I saw it was relatively clear, I jumped up and grabbed him. You never like to see anything like that happen,” Twiston-Davies told Racing TV’s Rishi Persad.
“Thankfully, the horse was okay which amazed me as I had never seen anything like it. He was concussed, but he got back up and walked up the track and all was okay.”
