This afternoon’s Halloween Family Fun Day meeting featuring the William Hill Old Roan Chase has been abandoned due to high winds caused by Storm Boelo.
Officials were due to inspect at 8am on Sunday morning, but made an early decision, announcing on X: "Today's Halloween Family Fun Day featuring the William Hill Old Roan Chase has been abandoned due to high winds caused by Storm Boelo.
"Overnight wind speeds have reached 44mph, with the outlook for the day showing further significant winds until at least early afternoon.
"While we are disappointed, the safety of our participants, visitors and teams is our number one priority.
General admission ticket holders will be refunded and hospitality bookers will be contacted in the coming days by a member of a team.
"Thank you for your understanding and we hope to see you soon."
However, in better news,
Market Rasen passed its morning inspection but clerk Alice Cosgrove will keep a close eye on the weather ahead of the opening race at 1pm.
"We are raceable at the moment," Cosgrove said. "We have had a walk round and everything is where it should be.
"We had gusts of up to 37mph and the average is 14mph. The forecast was for it to be stronger than we are currently experiencing, which is a positive we've got to take."
Meanwhile, the BHA have rescheduled the two Group 3 races from Saturday's lost Newbury card to Newmarket next week.
A statement explained: "The St Simon Stakes will now be contested at Newmarket on Friday October 30 for a prize fund totalling £75,000, with the Horris Hill Stakes taking place at the same venue the following day, Saturday October 31, with a total prize fund of £50,000.
"The Horris Hill will be changed from a colts and geldings race to all-sex. This accounts for the loss of the Listed Radley Stakes from Newbury's fixture, a race for fillies over the same trip as the Horris Hill."
