Nicky Henderson targets Doncaster redemption for Might Bite

Might Bite bids to put a horrible Kempton experience behind him in the Soar Enterprises Online Ltd Novices' Chase at Doncaster on Thursday.Nicky Henderson's eight-year-old had the Grade One Kauto Star Novices' Chase in the bag on Boxing Day when he took a crashing fall at the final fence. The saving grace was there were no lasting effects, bar him being a bit battered and bruised, and Henderson has spent the last few weeks attempting to build his confidence at home. Now the time has come for him to step foot back on a racecourse and with him being Sky Bet's 4-1 joint-favourite for the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, there will be plenty of eyes on Town Moor looking to see how he fares. He only faces two rivals, and that is one of the main reasons Henderson chose to send him north rather than wait for a graduation chase at Kempton on Friday. "The thought process behind choosing Doncaster over Kempton was that it looked like being the easier option," said Henderson. "I liked the idea of taking him back to Kempton over two and a half miles, but he needs a confidence booster."He's been very good at home since (Boxing Day), but I just felt that after what happened, the easiest race I could find him would do the job and by going to Kempton I'd have been overlooking the obvious."Doncaster is a lovely track, the fences are spaced out lovely, he won't be rushed over three miles and he's already won there over fences."Admittedly when it happened I thought he'd take a long time to recover because in his first couple of races he was a bit spooky at his fences."However, he recovered remarkably quickly and hopefully he puts in a clear round."While most have been scared off by Might Bite, Warren Greatrex does take him on with Ma Du Fou, but he is aware of the size of the task."Ma Du Fou is a good horse in his own right. Obviously if Might Bite turns up he's going to win, but it will be good experience for us," said Greatrex."It will be the first time we've run over three miles and I think that will help."Might Bite had a bad fall last time. If his confidence is dented, hopefully we might be able to use that. If not, there is good prize money on offer and we'll give it a shot."The field is completed by Caroline Bailey's Gorran Haven.
