Monday tips: Mark Rowntree's four best bets

Mark Rowntree bids to maintain his strong form with four selections across three meetings to start the week, including at Thirsk - live on Racing TV.
2.12 Windsor: Red Blue Point
Shaped pleasingly when runner-up to the now 88-rated Battle Fever on Thirsk debut and acquitted himself well (fourth) in the six-furlong Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes at Newmarket subsequently.
The winner of that race, Night In Vegas, enjoyed another bumper payday at Doncaster last week, so James Tate’s 92,000gns yearling ought to prove capable of going close in this maiden, particularly with the drop back to five furlongs likely to suit.
3.30 Sedgefield: Mr McWhinny
Mr McWhinny added to his tally at Newton Abbot last week, where he was a comfortable seven-length winner of a 2m5f Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase. That wasn’t overly competitive, but his trainer Tom Ellis (now 2-4 with this horse) has identified a similar opportunity at Sedgefield.
He escapes a penalty and, assuming all goes well, it’ll be interesting to see if he takes up another engagement back down at Newton Abbot later in the week.

4.30 Sedgefield: Littletown Lad (NAP)
Sam England’s six-year-old made the breakthrough over course and distance recently and, value for more than the winning margin there (pecked on landing at the last), is expected to confirm his superiority over Character Testing (runner-up) and Expert Analysis (third).
The Casamento gelding travelled strongly throughout that contest and, from this revised mark of 84, could be the type to run up a sequence - at 0-100 level and below - before the ground conditions begin to deteriorate.
5.21 Thirsk: The Childe Of Hale
Benefitted from being drawn on the right side of the track (stands’ side) when scoring at Redcar last week, that a second positive showing since returning from a mid-summer break, and being introduced to cheekpieces.
There was plenty to admire about the way he lengthened clear inside the final furlong, so the fact that he carries a 5lb penalty in a slightly better race (Class 5) isn’t a major concern.
