Top pundit and tipster, Martin Dixon, likes the chances of a big-priced contender at Carlisle on Saturday where he has two picks, plus one at Beverley. Paul Midgley's seven-year-old appears, in my opinion, in the form of his life this season, and although this is a competitive sprint, at 14-1 (at the time of writing), he strikes me as a good each-way bet.
He started the year with a bang when winning impressively at Newcastle twice, and his only poor run since that brace came when drawn one, and hung out on the wing, at the same track in April.
He ran exceptionally well at Ripon last time out when disputing a fast pace most of the way, and I thought he deserved credit for hanging in there like he did, given the fractions set that day.
He's been left alone from a mark of 82, and I prefer lower draws at Carlisle on quick ground, so stall four will, hopefully, be ideal.
2.33 Carlisle: Washington Heights
A quick glance at the form figures, or ratings, will say that Washington Heights arrives out of form, but in the Palace House last time out, he didn't have much room in the latter half of the race, and should have finished a lot closer.
I've always believed he's at his best when able to get to the front and dominate, so returning to a smaller field here I expect will really play to his strengths, and there doesn't appear to be a huge amount of pace pressure, if Tom Eaves reverts to more positive tactics.
His past two wins have both come when making all, too.
4.00 Beverley: Glenfinnan
Last time Glenfinnan got his head in front was August 2024 so he's not one for maximum stakes but I think there's been excuses for his last two runs - racing too freely without cover at Haydock and too far back at Thirsk last time when he also took a stumble briefly - and even on the best of his 2025 form he's very well handicapped now off 78. He needs to get some cover in behind a strong pace to be seen to best effect and with several forward-going types in opposition that looks like it could be on the cards and Michael Dods has his horses in good form at the moment.
