Top presenter and pundit Martin Dixon struck with Champagne Chic each-way last weekend (advised at 9-1) and likes a trio at Kempton this time.
(Selections first provided to subscribers to the Inside Angle newsletter on Friday afternoon - any odds mentioned were correct at that time).
1.10 Kempton: Grenadier Jed at a general 11-2
Robert Walford has done a cracking job with the training and placement of Grenadier Jed to this point, winning three of his four completed starts in handicap hurdles, and the only defeat in that sequence was another personal best at Chepstow last time, going down by just a head to the well-treated veteran West To The Bridge.
He handles testing ground well so overnight rain shouldn't be any inconvenience and I expect him to appreciate an increased stamina test over what is a slightly longer distance than he's raced over previously. He's a best priced 11-2 at the time of writing and I'll be happy to back him at anything 4-1 upwards.
3.35 Kempton: Katate Dori at 11-2 with William Hill
Flashback: Sam Thomas reflects on an easy win last year
The Sam Thomas-trained eight-year-old didn't just win this corresponding race last season, he completed routed the field to come home 15 lengths ahead, and on that performance I still think he's well handicapped from 11lb higher.
With potential for heavy rain before and during racing at Kempton on Saturday, I expect this to be a thorough test of stamina which will suit Katate Dori perfectly, whereas I think several of his opposition would be doubtful stayers if it does get testing.
He's 4-1 at the time of writing and there's the potential for him to shorten up appreciably in my opinion.
4.05 Kempton: Javert Allen at a general 7-2
Javert Allen has looked a natural jumper of fences since day one and, although he hasn't yet added to last season's brace of chase wins, he's run extremely well in defeat all season and I think Kempton will suit him much better over this intermediate trip than the stiff finish at Cheltenham did last time.
He's versatile with regards ground conditions if the heavens do open and is unexposed over this intermediate trip which he's certainly bred to be fully effective over.
