Punchestown Day Three: The Data Detective's clues
By Andy Stephens
Last Updated: Thu 30 Apr 2026
Who will star on day three of the Festival? Andy Stephens studies the RaceiQ numbers.
✅ DIAMOND DU BERLAIS
Career Jump Index: 7.9. Top Speed: 36.10mph (at Cheltenham last time)
Lengths Gained Jumping final 3 flights at Ludlow: 10.67.
Andy Stephens
Finished: 4thSP: 7/4
Diamond Du Berlais is the best jumper in this field according to the RaceiQ numbers and ran a cracker when sixth in the Mares’ Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham last time, having been only fourteenth with three furlongs left to run.
She had previously won easily at Ludlow, when her fluent jumping over the final three flights gained her almost 11 lengths.
Career Jump Index: 7.3. Top Speed: 36.10mph (at Wexford in October)
Paul Nolan Actual over Expected at Punchestown: 1.28.
Andy Stephens
Finished: 2ndSP: 16/1
The Big Clubman is the most unexposed runner in this huge field and is interesting moving up in trip on his handicap debut.
The Paul Nolan-trained six-year-old has got a respectable Career Jump Index of 7.3 out of 10 and his high Finishing Speed Percentages reflect he’s been running in steadily run races that have not go to the bottom of him. First-time cheekpieces are also an interesting addition.
✅ TEAHUPOO
Past two Jump Index scores at Punchestown: 8.0 and 8.1. Top Speed: 37.41mph (at Cheltenham last time)
Winning strike rate: 63.63% (14 wins from 22 races)
Andy Stephens
Finished: 3rdSP: 5/4
Teahupoo’s overall Career Jump Index score is 7.1 but he seems to have a soft spot for Punchestown, registering scores of 8 and 8.1 on his way to landing this race for the past two years.
The prolific nine-year-old will be hard to beat in his hat-trick attempt if jumping with similar fluency, with connections adding first-time blinkers into the equation to help sharpen him up.
