The conditions changed dramatically on day two of the
Cheltenham Festival after an abundance of rain, and we went from Constitution Hill smashing the course record in the Supreme, to a mud bath 24 hours later!
The scenes as the first four came into the straight in the Coral Cup looked more like something out of the wild, and one went from struggling to see one's horse getting involved, to struggling to see one's horse full stop.
We go again. I have three fancies for Thursday, best of luck.
I have thought all along that Galopin Des Champs was running in the wrong race here, but the Brown Advisory turned into such a slog that it may prove Willie Mullins was correct to run his charge here.
Bob Olinger was sensational in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle 12 months ago and if Galopin Des Champs takes a chance at any of these fences, then he could throw away his chance.
I have followed this horse so far this season and he is one who will not be inconvenienced by the conditions. His two hurdling wins (from three starts) were on heavy, and although he's a maiden over fences, he is generally a really good jumper.
Everything looks right for him here, especially with Davy Russell in the plate.
This horse will almost surely be ridden handy and on the evidence of Wednesday, that will help, as will his low weight. He will need to get his jumping together, but he went off at 5-2 in a Leopardstown chase last week when he ruined his chance at the first, but still ran well. He's also a dour stayer.
