James Tate eyeing Classic campaign with Hey Gaman

Hey Gaman is likely to be put away for the winter and be prepared for a tilt at the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

James Tate is hoping the tough and talented son of Invincible Spirit will develop into a Classic contender following a juvenile campaign in which he has won three of seven races culminating in the Denford Stakes.

Tate believes Hey Gaman has probably done enough for the year following a career best in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster on Saturday when he failed by just a neck to make all the running in the Group Two won by Seahenge.

"He's taken the race at Doncaster very well. Having said that, he has had seven runs this year. To say he was prepared for the Craven breeze-up sale means he's been on the go a long time," said Tate.

"It's not 100 per cent finalised yet, but I'd say there's a chance he might wait until next year now.

"He was 548 kilos on Saturday and he's got bigger all year and will get bigger again next year, so we're really looking to having him as a three and a four-year-old.

"We'll probably put him away now and have him at the peak of his powers next year.

"The Guineas (is the target), whether there will be a trial before it, we'll see, but he's a bit ground dependent. That ground at Doncaster was as quick as he would want it.

"We will prepare him and see what the weather is like come April, May time."
