Nell Gwyn fourth Inis Mor given go ahead for Guineas bid

Inis Mor is set to return to Newmarket for the Betfred 1000 Guineas after her encouraging fourth in the Nell Gwyn Stakes last week.
David Menuisier’s daughter of Galiway won her first two outings last term before finishing the campaign with a second-placed effort in a valuable conditions event at ParisLongchamp.

She caught the eye with the way she travelled into contention on the Rowley Mile and although eventually beaten two lengths by shock winner Azleet, her handler believes there will be more to come when moving up to a mile for the opening fillies’ Classic of the campaign.
“I was happy with her performance, as she was just ready to start her season,” said Menuisier.
“The race will sharpen her up, but I thought she travelled arguably the best of all, which when you consider that she’s bred to stay, is really exciting.
“Down the line it’s always been the plan to step up in trip and she has shown that she’s part of the top fillies of her generation which is very exciting.
“The step up will come gradually as we go along but it makes sense to go back in two weeks for the Guineas.
“She is in the French Guineas but the main idea of going to Newmarket was to make sure she handles the track, which she does. In France you could be drawn 16 of 16 and we’re training in England, so why not run in England.”
Inis Mor sports the colours of Quantum Leap Racing, whose Group One-winning Tamfana – also trained by Menuisier – was an agonising fourth in her own quest for Classic honours in 2024.
Menuisier added: “I’m due one to go my way! I think it makes sense to go back and I’m extremely lucky to be in this situation again.”
