Katie Midwinter has five selections across two meetings on Tuesday, four of which come from Pontefract - live on Racing TV.
2.52 Pontefract: Cape Ashizuri
The son of St Mark's Basilica made a successful debut last term before featuring in the hotly-contested Champagne Stakes. He then finished second at Redcar to Saber Strike, a 230,000gns colt entered in the 2000 Guineas, and this opening mark of 88 on handicap debut could prove to be lenient.
The training partnership of John and Sean Quinn recorded a 33 per cent strike-rate at the track last year, and could land another Pontefract winner with this promising three-year-old.
3.27 Pontefract: Flying Frontier and Sunriseontheboyne (E/W)
On his last winning mark of 95 making his reappearance following a break, the James Tate-trained contender makes appeal back on a sounder surface from a workable rating.
He remains lightly-raced and is capable of showing further improvement, having already proven himself at the weights and over this trip. The yard has a decent track record and Callum Rodriguez, who previously partnered him to a win in novice company, is currently in a great run of form.
Disappointing since joining Ben Haslam, the son of Cotai Glory is now on a lower mark of 81 as he lines up in this contest, 5lb higher than when recording his latest success in comfortable fashion at Listowel for former trainer Michael Mulvany.
Last season, he was able to finish fourth to Starford in a Gowran Park handicap, giving 12lb to the winner who landed Group Three honours on Sunday and will likely achieve a rating higher than his current 102.
Further improvement is needed, but he could be worth keeping the faith in and is one to note each-way.
4.02 Pontefract: Valentine Catcher (E/W)
Proven over course and distance, a return to this venue could spark some improvement from the Tim Easterby-trained gelding, who finished in front here last season when equipped with first-time cheekpieces.
He could take a step forward from his return to action at Thirsk and fare better this time around. He is now on a mark of 67, 5lb lower than when demoted here in September, and 4lb lower than his previous handicap win at Nottingham. He has each-way claims.
8.00 Wolverhampton: The Cutest (E/W)
Despite being a 12-race maiden, the daughter of No Nay Never has caught the eye on occasions and a step up to 7f could see her to better effect as she bids to make it 13th time lucky.
Her dam, Morpho Blue, a daughter of Mastercraftsman, won over a mile, and things have appeared to be happening too quickly for The Cutest so far. Therefore, an extra furlong could allow her to sneak into the frame at least.
She was far from disgraced when last seen and could be capable of outrunning her odds with a favourable trip.
