After a 16-5 winner at Kempton on Wednesday, our pundit Dave Nevison fancies three runners to go well at Market Rasen on Thursday. Enjoy more action from Taunton, Punchestown and Chelmsford live on Racing TV.
This is a competitive race of its type but he has plenty in his favour.
Sure Touch won a 0-130 handicap hurdle last season, so it is interesting that he runs in a 0-120 here and unsurprising that he carries top weight.
He was most consistent last season, winning four times over hurdles, and judged on his reappearance over fences at Ludlow recently he looks to have an equally bright future over fences. He was probably unlucky to lose that race and stayed on really well in the closing stages. Ludlow’s fences are probably stiffer than they used to be (I would think that they are tougher than Market Rasen) and the way he was finishing suggests the long run-in here will suit him very well.
Olly Murphy’s even-year-old has gone well for claiming riders in the past and Dylan Johnston being on board is no concern for me. Indeed, the 7lb he claims here could be vital.
The six-year-old has been a slow burner with a couple of false dawns in his short career so far, but he came good with a vengeance at Huntingdon on his reappearance and looks well worth backing to follow up here.
Mikhailovich looked a promising bumper horse in his early days but may have had wind issues, something that was addressed by surgery or he may just have been a bit weak last season.
His trainer Kim Bailey has been in excellent form this autumn and it looks very much as though Mikhailovich is now ready to progress from this basement level.
I am hopeful that General Hubble might be another who has been brought along gradually by Kim Bailey and he certainly has a low handicap mark from which to build on.
He is closely related to out and out stayers, so the chances are that he will be suited by a step up to three miles here. He has been dropped 2lb for his handicap debut last time - back in late March and at this track - in which he first showed a sign of his ability.
He will surely go close here if he has progressed physically over the intervening months and is in as good form as most of his stable companions.
