Our website tipster Dave Nevison takes aim at the all-weather action on Good Friday, including at Chelmsford which you can watch live on Racing TV.
1.30 Lingfield: Destinado
Mason Paetel will certainly not be claiming 7lb against other apprentices for too long, and while he has this advantage, I think it will prove wise to stick with the young rider.
He won on Destinado, who stayed on in very good style to win going away by almost two lengths, at the Lincoln meeting at Doncaster when last seen.
The selection disappointed on the all-weather in his latter runs on that surface before scoring at Doncaster but won twice in November (at Southwell and Lingfield) and I am very hopeful he has simply returned to form overall.
Destinado was a bit of a winning machine last year when scoring eight times and will be very well suited stepping back up in trip here. If his last run does mark a return to form, he will be tough to beat.
4.00 Chelmsford: Sixpack
This ex-Irish performer has joined one of the most upwardly mobile yards in the country and I expect James Owen is very pleased that Sixpack is making his British debut off a rating only a pound higher than when he last ran in Ireland.
The five-year-old won a couple of races for Johnny Murtagh in Ireland, including one over this trip, and while Owen runs two in this race, with useful hurdler Swagger Stick also having a chance, I think his keen-going style could set the race up perfectly for his new stable companion in a race where there are a couple of potential front-runners.
This is a cracking contest, and could well be a pointer to bigger staying handicaps over the coming weeks, and hopefully Sixpack can strike on his first start for 200 days.
5.00 Chelmsford: Mr Swivell
Mr Swivell didn’t race as a two-year-old, and his season last year was divided into two distinct halves. He ran on the all-weather early in the year, performing creditably in the main, and won his maiden at Southwell.
After slightly disappointing at this track on his fourth start, he had a near four-month break, but quickly hit form when winning over a mile following a pipe opener. He then finished a close third at Haydock off this rating before he was beaten twice on unfavourable ground conditions.
The handicapper didn’t drop him for his last two runs, and looks to have also taken the view that it was the going that went against him. I definitely take the view that he can win races off a rating of 75.
If he has settled in well at Kevin Philippart De Foy's yard (they had a winner on Wednesday) then he can go close here, and I reckon he could have another productive season.
