Racing TV pundit Dave Nevison makes a case for three contenders at on Wednesday, including one trained by Willie Mullins.
2.40 Cheltenham: Classic Getaway
This is a cracking handicap chase, and it is no surprise that Willie Mullins has a strong hand with two very backable contenders.
Classic Getaway, who hasn’t run since February, will be very fresh at this time of year, and has improved in each of his runs so far this season. He won a small-field Grade Two chase at Gowran Park in good style last time and although this is his first run in a handicap for a while, he doesn’t look overburdened for this more competitive event (numerically, at least).
The rain that is likely to arrive at Cheltenham will suit him well and the trip also looks perfect.
Riskintheground did me a big favour up at Ayr last week, but he is 10lb higher here in a much stronger race, and
looks the one to side with.
3.15 Cheltenham: Yes Day
is a lightly-raced chaser who is having just his sixth outing over fences here, but has got the hang of things now and has won his past two races in really progressive style.
He is 4lb higher than when beating Planned Paradise last time out at Hereford, but he won nicely there and looks capable of beating him again as a more competitive race might well bring about more improvement.
He is not ground dependant and if, as seems likely, this stamina test will be run at a decent pace, then
might well be able to outspeed his more exposed rivals.
3.50 Cheltenham: Mr Hope Street
I have been with this horse more often than not this season and won on him at short prices on a couple of occasions. Mr Hope Street looks like he will be a really good chaser next term, but still has upside in him as a staying handicap hurdler and, as to be expected, Dan Skelton seems to have found the right level of race for the seven-year-old to take another step forward.
There is no doubt at all that Mr Hope Street will be fit and ready for this, despite a short absence, and he looks set to rack up some prize money to add to his trainer’s title challenge.
