We have some top-class Flat action at
Leopardstown to look forward to with trials for the 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas taking centre stage. As always, I have four selections for you.
This 1,000 Guineas trial is full of fillies with bags of potential, but none have achieved anything like the level of form that Shale has.
She won a Group One as a two-year-old and as a consequence must concede 3lb, but she looks capable of doing that given her high level of form - she beat the very useful Pretty Gorgeous in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.
She has the best pedigree in the race being by Galileo out of the 1,000 Guineas winner Homecoming Queen and I think she will take plenty of beating here.
This horse comes here fit from a couple of recent outings on the all-weather and trainer Ger Lyons has his horses in good form.
Leadership Race has two career wins and both at Dundalk, but he does have decent turf form. He boasts two excellent placed efforts at Leopardstown and the Curragh, and in both he flew home from uncompromising positions. He shaped particularly well when second at the Curragh recently where a stronger gallop would have helped his strong finishing style.
He looks to be well-treated off a mark of 85 and rates as a very solid play.
Aidan O'Brien has his horses in tremendous form and this colt looks to be thoroughly progressive.
He only had three starts as a two-year-old, winning second-time out here and then finishing fifth in the Criterium de Saint Cloud when not beaten far. That race came just eight days after his maiden win, yet he coped really well.
There is undoubtedly plenty more to come from this son of Galileo and, although he looks sure to be suited by a mile and a half, this Group Three over 10 furlongs looks an ideal start to his season.
Sandy Thomson is a trainer in good form and this French recruit is open to more improvement, having had just two starts in the UK and being well-supported on both.
He ran well to be second at Newcastle when last seen, pulling well clear of the third. He had some decent form when trained in France and that effort last time out suggested that he was finding his feet for his new yard. This handicap looks to be the right grade for him and he looks sure to make a bold bid.
